Tai Chi
Tai' Chi
"meditation in movement"
Tai Chi is a series of flowing movements called "forms"
which involve breathing and meditative concentration. This stirs
the life energy which the Chinese call "chi", enabling
it to flow to nourish and balance the body, mind, and spirit.
Physically, Tai Chi opens joints and increases flexibility,
posture and balance, gives muscles more tone and elasticity,
and reduces high blood pressure. It stimulates the circulation
of blood, oxygen, and lymph. It massages the internal organs.
Mentally, Tai Chi improves concentration, memory, and alertness
and releases tension. Emotionally, it relaxes and calms.
Lessons teach the 24 movement simplified form which is current
Chinese standard developed during the Tai Chi masters'
conference which takes place in Peking every 5 years.
Qi Gong This is a very concentrated exercise form
which develops the internal force and energy flow that is the
essential foundation of Tai Chi. Qi Gong is older than
Tai Chi, and is shown in pictograms dating back to hundreds
of years B.C.
Qi Gong circulates energy to maintain and improve health. It
stimulates the brain, tones muscles that are not often used,
and improves balance. It stimulates blood circulation to all
energy points (acupuncture points).
Lessons teach the eight movements
(8 Brocades).
