Canadian Hyperbarics ~ Camrose
Hyperbaric medicine is an accepted medical practice
for the treatment of numerous physical and neurological inuries
and dysfunctions.
"Hyper" is simply an increase, while "baric"
refers to the pressure. Hyperbarics is the increase of atmospheric
pressure around the body.
More oxygen can be dissolved into the circulatory
system and body fluids; this is Hyperbaric Oxygenation.
Oxygen is delivered further and deeper into the tissues and
cells. Damaged tissues and cells normally deprived of oxygen
receive the oxygen required for healing.
Oxygen is necessary for sustaining life; it is the essential
bodily requirement for the stimulation, preservation and growth
of all tissues and cells. It is the primary ingredient that the
body requires to promote and effect healing.
In the pressurized environment of the hyperbaric chamber,
your blood is able to hold extra molecules of oxygen. The extra
oxygen is carried deeper into your tissues, for faster and more
effective healing. Athletes are able to bounce back rapidly from
injury. Hyperbaric therapy is even used to help racehorses recover
quickly from injury! Health Canada recognizes hyperbaric oxygen
as a treatment for several conditions.
You stay in the chamber for approximately
1 to 1 1/2 hours, during which you can watch videos, or read.
For the first few minutes, your ears will adjust, the same as
in an airplane take-off, so you can chew gum (or swallow).
You wear the oxygen mask over your nose. Children can wear
a plastic helmet that looks like an astronaut helmet. |
